4 Tips for Prepping Your Wedding Day Detail Items for Your Photographer

Your wedding day truly is all about the details! From your gown and accessories to the decor and florals, each element has been carefully chosen to reflect your unique style as a couple. You may have spent months (or even years!) planning every last detail, so these detail shots are a great way for your photographer to capture all of your hard work! But before you can enjoy those beautiful detail shots in your wedding album, there are a few things you'll need to do to prepare your detail items for your photographer.

Here are four tips for prepping your wedding day detail items for your photographer:

  1. Make a list and gather all of the items to be photographed in the days before your wedding.
  2. Create an easy way to transport your items, and have a place to keep them safe
  3. Color coordinate your items
  4. Don't forget the hanger!

Your wedding photos are going to be cherished memories for years to come, so making sure your details are well-prepared will help ensure that they're captured beautifully. Let's look at some of the most commonly missed items when it comes to preparing your detail items for your photographer.

1. Make a list and gather all of the items to be photographed in the days before your wedding.

Making a list of all of the detail items you want to be photographed is a great way to start the process of prepping your wedding day details for your photographer. This will help you make sure that you don't forget anything, and it will also give you a chance to start gathering everything in one place.

Gather all of the items you would like photographed in the days before your wedding day. Why? Because the detailed shots are like a narrative. The photographer will most likely ask for the items you wish to be photographed as soon as he or she arrives wherever you're getting ready. The day of your wedding can be hectic, but if these items are together in a safe spot, it'll save you time and stress on your big day.

Obviously, the rings are super important but think of things such as:

  • Any jewelry you will be wearing or holding
  • Keepsakes or something old like a grandmother's ring
  • Perfume bottle,
  • Pandora bracelets, etc.

2. Create an easy way to transport your items, and have a place to keep them safe

If you will be staying in the same room where your prep will take place, make sure to leave all of the gathered items in a safe place, ready to be handed to your photographer upon arrival.

If you will be traveling in the morning to your prep location, keep everything in a box or bag for easy transport, so things don't get lost or damaged during transit. Having a safe spot for your items no matter where you're getting ready is key to making sure everything stays organized and together.

3. Color coordinate your items

When it comes to detail shots, color is key! Coordinating the colors of your detail items will create a beautiful and cohesive look in your photos. Some people go all out. They color coordinate each item that will be paired with the rings or detail items. Some don't even think of it.

If you're not sure where to start, consider using your wedding colors as a guide. Your invitations should match your wedding theme/color, and these can be a great starting point. Try your best to keep things color coordinated so it can all look great when put together.

4. Don't forget the hanger!

Okay! This one is important. Buy yourself a wooden hanger to hold your dress. It makes such a difference in the photos when the dress is hanging with a nice wooden hanger or a custom engraved hanger rather than the flimsy plastic one that comes from the bridal shop.

They are very affordable and can be found anywhere like Amazon, or even custom engraved ones from companies like (Tug Hill Custom) (Don't worry, for the brides of mine who forget, I've got you covered! I always carry a generic one with me)
